The Wonder Pod is a fully immersive outdoor children's play pod with features that focus on learning through play, and career-oriented activities.
The children's pod is a two-level structure that reaches 10' in height and is an octagonal shape that is 8' all around.
The play structure is positioned for great visibility on site and is sitting on a bed of recycled rubber mulch.
The upper level is full of textures and patterns that create play with shadow and light.
The ground level is open concept with a variety of activities and plenty of space to run and play.
With anthropometrics as our base we set out to create a colorful and well-suited pod for children of all ages!
The Wonder Pod has a fun colorful slide that the children can play on. This, as well as all other features, were built with safety in mind.
This experience has taught me a great deal about the design process, construction, and working with a design team. The design process is a series of concepts, refinements, and readjustments. Communication is key throughout all phases of the design process and can be conveyed through verbal communication and sketching. As a part of the learning process, we had to learn about building systems to ensure that the pod was structurally sound. I think that throughout this process I have learned much about working with a group. We have many personalities and communication styles and we had to learn to work together. The team ended up working so well together and the process was very easy to manage. We all communicated well and got the work done early! Overall this process was so great and ended up being very fun to work with the team.
